Patient care is our passion at Jacksonville Lymphedema Specialists, we recognize the unique needs of this underserved part of our community. Dr. Mark A. Matey, D.P.M. has spent the majority of his lengthy career helping to resolve the most difficult cases of lymphedema of the lower extremity.
Dr. Matey has recognized that most patients who have lower leg swelling get misdiagnosed with Chronic Lymphedema when the real issue is actually damaged valves in the veins of the lower leg. He has gained a reputation for helping patients return to a normal lifestyle after years of suffering unnecessarily from Chronic Venous Valvular Insufficiency. We have helped patients through the use of minimally invasive procedures in the office setting with excellent and predictable results. Typically patients experience lasting 50%-75% reduction in swelling with the first few months of starting our program and no longer require Manual Lymphatic Drainage, compression pumps or sometimes even compression hose at all.
Recently, Florida Foot and Ankle was recognized by the greater Jacksonville community as “Bold City’s Best” Podiatrist 2018, 2019, 2020.

During his time serving veterans, Dr. Matey underwent considerable training in wound care, which he put to good use when he was approached by Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville to help open its new Wound Institute, the first to offer hyperbaric treatment in Northeast Florida. Dr. Matey was also one of the first physicians to perform endovenous radiofrequency ablations in the office setting for treating venous and lymphatic disease. This procedure has helped patient throughout the southeastern states resume a normal healthy lifestyle without fear of developing wounds, worsening swelling…even without the need for compression hose for many patients.
